Externally hosted services can be managed by UnitSpace BCR Server. By registering external Web services in UnitSpace BCR Server, they are given a local address opaque to service consumers. This new virtualized service endpoint is then published to UDDI registry for discovery along with all accompanying metadata. If the service then moves to another network location, the newly created facade just keeps steady, isolating the outside world from such changes.

External services can be monitored and versioned just like the locally-hosted UnitSpace BCR services, helping to identify exceptions and troubleshoot problems as they occur. In addition, UnitSpace BCR Server can extract valuable on-the-wire data being passed to and from external Web services. Entity extraction helps gather otherwise inaccessible business data, helping to compile valuable reports.

For example, purchase orders coming in to a managed Web service can have their summary data, including totals, extracted on-the-fly and stored in UnitSpace BCR Server's built-in repository. This business data can then be provided via a UnitSpace BCR data service to an application that calculates daily sales volumes for online orders.
