Manageability
UnitSpace radically expands IT managers' ability to directly control their environments by empowering them with metadata-driven services that help move data smoothly across the extended enterprise. These pre-packaged services are ready to be instantiated and changed at any moment, to become the designated provider's offering available on demand to entitled consumers. Because they are driven by metadata, services provided via UnitSpace BCR Server automatically absorb changes. As services are updated, they can be offered side by side with prior versions to allow time for existing clients to migrate. UnitSpace BCR Server takes advantage of industry standard UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration) to expose the ever-changing directory of Web services it provides on behalf of their owners. Any changes to services available on UnitSpace BCR Server are immediately reflected in the enterprise UDDI registry. Service endpoints published to UDDI registry are decorated with rich metadata, forming the services' technical contract in exhaustive compliance to technical guidelines developed by authoritative standards groups. This facilitates service discovery by the tools used by software engineers at design-time and by IT managers and service consumers at run-time, enabling location transparency, loose coupling and managed standards-based interoperability between service providers and consumers. UnitSpace BCR Server unifies management of all enterprise services, no matter where or which platform hosts it. Along with regular performance metrics, UnitSpace BCR Server can be configured to extract business data out of messages passing by, which can then be provided by co-located data services (see Data Services). Captured operational data can be stored and/or forwarded to a systems management console, such as HP OpenView, for alerting and integration with other management data.
